GILGAMESH
Debuting at the National Theatre of Rome, this contemporary adaptation of the oldest hero of literature, the king of Uruk (modern day Iraq) and his odyssey of finding immortality. A blend of story telling, physical theatre and performance arts, to reflect on what it is to be human, alive and our struggles with mortality.
The rehearsal process began in late April with a physical training process - a mixture of studying the ancient text of Gilgamesh, to understand the themes and how we could contemporise the performance. Our first run began in June, in Rome, then we returned to London for the October run.
The company (BAM company) consisted of 20 collaborators ranging in different aspects of theatre design each specialised and trained for this production. What made it even more special that the project was international. Collaborators from different nationalities ranging from, Italy, Portugal, UK, Japan, Lithuania and Brazil. Each collaborator from different cultural traditions, different histories and economics that have shaped and impacted their individual artistic expressions.
