With the formation of CIE. KEN NAKAJIMA, Ken embarks on an exciting journey establishing a theatre company dedicated to deconstructing societal icons and confronting the intricacies of the human experience. Utilising mythology, autobiography, and art history to craft performances that push the boundaries of traditional theatre. Each piece is an exploration of iconoclasm - uncovering the cyclical struggle to question, break, and rebuild the symbols and stories that shape our world. The company invites spectators to engage deeply, questioning what is revered, and to see the familiar through a fresh, often unsettling, perspective.
CIE. KEN NAKAJIMA is not merely theatre; it’s a platform for transformative dialogue, inviting spectators to confront the sacred and the familiar with a fresh lens - one that may be challenging, liberating, or even unsettling. By dismantling revered symbols and exploring hidden narratives, the company encourages audiences to engage deeply and question their own beliefs, expanding their perspective on what we hold sacred, timeless, or true. This theatre company reimagines tradition and invites bold introspection, creating a space where every performance is a journey toward seeing the world anew.

CIE. KEN NAKAJIMA is an open collective by default.
Artists both established and emerging come and go, shaping the company’s identity through their presence and departures. Internationalism sits at the heart of our work: collaborations unfold across borders, cultures, and disciplines. The company exists as a meeting ground rather than a fixed institution, where ideas can be tested, exchanged, and transformed.
